Why We Built This
So, here's the backstory. A few years ago, I landed in Guangzhou completely clueless. I had a guidebook from 2014, a paper map, and exactly zero apps set up on my phone. I got lost trying to find my hotel, couldn't figure out how to pay for street food, and spent way too long staring at a subway map wondering which line went where. It was a mess — but also kind of amazing, because Guangzhou turned out to be one of the most incredible cities I'd ever visited.
That's why this site exists. I wanted to create the resource I desperately needed back then: honest, practical, up-to-date advice from someone who's actually been there, gotten confused, made mistakes, and figured it out. No corporate fluff, no generic copy-paste info. Just real tips from a real traveler who fell in love with this city and wants you to have an easier time discovering it than I did.
Who's Behind This
It's basically me, plus a small circle of friends who've either lived in Guangzhou or visited enough times to know their way around. We're not a big company — just a handful of people who genuinely love traveling in China and geek out over finding the best dim sum spots, hidden temples, and local neighborhoods most tourists never see.
Everything on this site comes from firsthand experience. If I recommend a restaurant, it's because I've eaten there. If I suggest a route, it's because I've walked it (sometimes in the wrong direction first). I write the kind of advice I'd give to a friend over coffee, because that's exactly what you are.
What Makes This Guide Different
- Actually Local: Tips from people who've wandered Guangzhou's streets, not just read about them online
- Kept Fresh: I update things regularly because I know how fast China changes — a metro line that didn't exist last year might be your best shortcut now
- Made for Real Travelers: I focus on what overseas visitors actually stress about, like paying for things, getting around, and not accidentally ordering chicken feet (unless you want to)
- Covers It All: From must-see landmarks to hole-in-the-wall eateries to the practical stuff no one tells you
- Completely Free: No paywalls, no affiliate spam, no nonsense — just helpful info because I genuinely want more people to experience this city
What I Promise You
I'm not here to sell you anything or sugarcoat the experience. Here's what you can actually expect from this guide:

- Respect for the local culture and customs (and tips on how not to accidentally offend anyone)
- Practical advice that saves you time, money, and awkward moments
- A site that's simple to use because I hate cluttered websites as much as you do
- Content that gets you excited to explore, not overwhelmed by options
